can't get enough of that crinkly thing
I just love how my quilts crinkle up in the wash. The texture is always a surprise and it completely transforms a flat surface to one that is alive with texture. I admit, sometimes it is like Russian roulette and I have to delegate the piece to the pile for pillow forms and dog beds. But when it works it is such a joy.
Here is a detail of the piece I have been working on called Strangers Among Us, post crinkle. Almost done with this one.
Dow Jones goes to Chelsea
My Keeping an eye on the Dow Jones piece will hang at the Kathryn Markel Gallery, 529 W 20th St. in Manhattan starting this Thursday. Uncommon Threads: A Survey of Contemporary Quilts includes work by Katherine Knauer, Eliza Fernand, Violette Alby, Scott Andresen, Denise Burge, Lisa Call, Paula Nadlestern, Daphne Taylor, Eleanor McCain and Eileen Lauterborn. If you are in the Manhattan area, take a minute to see some beautiful work by a number of wonderful quilt artists.
Philadelphia here i come
Just got a notice that Same but Not will show in the ArtQuilt Elements show in Philadelphia next Spring. The nice thing about this show is that it is at the same time as the SAQA/SDA conference Identity:Context and Reflection and the Fiber Philadelphia biennial devoted to all things fiber art.
A must be there event.
where have i seen this before?
This rough construction came out of nowhere for me the other day. And I feel like I have seen it somewhere before. It's really bugging me. I feel like I am channeling someone else's thoughts. So I am going to wait till I feel more comfortable with it to proceed.
