I thought I was done with this piece about a month ago. It has a lot of detail. I was obsessive about adding more. After awhile it was a form of therapy—a zone that zoomed in on detail and inclusion. I hung it up on the wall and watched it for a few weeks.
How does size affect the overall impression of a work of art?
The more I studied this piece the more I realized it needed a larger field of play. All of that detail seemed crammed into a space that was bursting. Those floating amoebas needed more range. So, I added more. More pieces, more detail, more amoebas.
Now it feels done.
