I am happy to announce that two of my pieces will be in the 39th New Legacies: Contemporary Art Quilts show in Ft. Collins, CO opening June 10. If you are in the area please stop by to see this wonderful show.
Grid Interrupted is made of pre-stitched, cut-up quilts. All of the pieces were part of other quilts that I have made in the past. It measures 57” x 56”.
You Are Here measures 35” x 98”. A very long piece on canvas. The marks are ink with overstitching.
I’m including detail shots of both pieces below.
Are you thinking I might have a dual personality? These two pieces are so different even I find it a little surprising. One is obsessive in its detail, the other builds story with improvised forms. When I enter my studio I am never quite sure which muse will take me. I do know this: preconceived ideas I may have when I begin will always take a back seat to being in process, letting the stitch tell me where it needs to go. I’m not kidding about this. It tells me. I listen.
Three wishes?
More time please.
More space for large works.
Shows that take the artist’s costs into consideration. Shipping these puppies was no small feat. And the cost? I won’t say. Suffice it to say that I have saved up enough to afford to enter, ship and repeat. Others don’t have that privilege and I want to see their work too.
