My friend and collaborator, Jean, has taken some exquisite shots of the leftover body parts we had for our Parallel Lives show. I think they deserve a show of their own. Here is one of the pod people I worked on. You can see the doodling on the fabric, the threads and even the sparkly stuffing. Don't you just want to know what would be birthed from that inner space? You'll see more in the future when we publish the book about the work. Coming soon.....

Parallel Lives _ the book

The Parallel LIves show is over for now. Taking it down yesterday was a LOT easier than putting it up.

And, just like two dogs with a bone, Jean and I are continuing our collaboration to create a book that outlines our process in creating the art. Our approach? Create random pages expressing stages of development, assemble and revise. Here is one page showing our (extremely professional and somewhat effective) lighting system. The quotes from our email conversations will be liberally scattered throughout. We'll announce the final product in this space. So put it on your reading list for the future.

Parallel Lives show extended for 2 more weeks

Listening for the pulse, Jean Holmgren and Paula Kovarik, 2011The good folks at Cooper Young Community Association have allowed us to keep the show hanging for a couple of more weeks. If you haven't had a chance to see it yet, the show will be up until June 23. Jean and I would be happy happy happy to hear what you think of our efforts.

The date is set

Jean and I have chosen a date and location for our Parallel LIves show. The show runs from May 20 - June 11, 2001 at the Cooper Young Association offices at 2298 Young Ave., Memphis, TN. If you are in the area please join us at the Opening celebration at 6pm on May 20.

This event celebrates a collaboration that began 2 years ago (with nods to Leigh Ann and her CraftB group). After realizing how much we had in common, Jean and I commited ourselves to work together to create art using her skills as a sculptress and mine in fabric.

One of our first pieces was a doodleshare drawing.
